Agriculture That Benefits The Planet And The People Growing It

Releaf’s commitment to sustainable agriculture is unwavering across the different crops and value chains that we play in.

Our Approach Focuses On Models That Protect The Environment While Contributing To The Economic Growth And Resilience Of Farmers.

We work closely with smallholder farmers, without taking ownership of their land and enforcing mono-cropping. We’re working to ensure that the smallholders adopt the best agricultural practices & making investments in their processing equipment. This helps to increase yield while reducing the chances of environmental degradation and potential wildfires.
Our model helps to boost revenue and reduce wastage for smallholders as we off-take their produce during harvest. Post harvest losses remain one of the major challenges that Releaf looks to solve using technology to improve harvesting efficiency, storage and the shelf life of produce. As the population of the continent of Africa grows, the demand for food will continue to rise as well as the need to build efficient processing and supply chains. But all these must be done responsibly and sustainably.

Sustainable And Eco-Friendly Farming

For example, Releaf is committed to sustainable and eco-friendly oil palm farming that we believe is a win-win for the environment, farmers and everyone involved in the value chain. Our model focuses on dealing with naturally occurring wild palm, empowering Smallholders and reducing wastage. Palm trees are indigenous to West Africa and have been part of its landscape and culture for centuries. Across many generations, Africans have sustainably cultivated and benefited from the trees, their fruit (palm kernels) and various other by-products.
The oil palm tree is naturally endowed and requires relatively low maintenance compared to other trees. These qualities and more makes it much-coveted across the world.

Oil palm is widely regarded as the most efficient oilseed crop in the world - one hectare of oil palm is able to produce up to eight times more oil than other leading oilseed crops. The efficiency of its production, low cost and stability of the oil makes it the most attractive and widely-used vegetable oil in the world. Oil palm is also ubiquitous in global products, including food, cosmetics, detergents, plastics, industrial chemicals, and biofuels.

Harnessing Palm The Most Humane Way

However, a range of aggressive practices have become associated with oil palm farming over the years, leading to an inaccurate label by many as dangerous to the environment. It is important to note that the oil palm tree itself is not the driver of deforestation in the rainforest and other harmful practices that are inflicted on the environment. Instead, it is the practices adopted by certain players that focus on completely taking over existing rainforests and land cultivated by smallholders that are problematic.
At Releaf, we are committed to sustainable and eco-friendly oil palm farming that we believe is a win-win for the environment, farmers and everyone involved in the value chain. Our model focuses on dealing with naturally occurring wild palm, empowering Smallholders and reducing wastage.

We work closely with smallholder farmers, without taking ownership of their land & enforcing mono-cropping. We’re working to ensure that the smallholders adopt the best agricultural practices & making investments in their processing equipment. This further prevents the chances of potential wildfires of the oil palm they work with today while increasing yields & reducing wastage of palm fruit.

A Sector Where Everyone Grows

Oil Palm has the potential to support job and wealth creation in the communities in which it is grown. This is why we are committed to supporting the growing demand but doing so in a sustainable way that is beneficial to the environment and communities in palm oil-producing regions.
